Boat trips in Lanzarote: Papagayo, La Graciosa, Lobos and Fuerteventura
From Lanzarote the boats go four ways: south along the coast to the Papagayo beaches, north across the strait to La Graciosa, and east over the water to Isla de Lobos and Fuerteventura. Which one suits you depends on where you are staying and how much of the day you want at sea.
To Papagayo
Papagayo is the best known beach on the island, a string of coves inside the Los Ajaches natural park that is easiest to reach from the water. The Catlanza catamaran sails there from Puerto Calero for four hours, with lunch, drinks and the coach from your hotel. The Papagayo catamaran leaves Puerto del Carmen for four hours with paella, an open bar and kayaks, with or without hotel pick-up. From Playa Blanca, the Papagayo mini cruise is the short version: a swim stop off the beaches, in the morning or the afternoon.
At sunset, and dolphins
The sunset catamaran sails two hours along the south coast off Puerto del Carmen, with a mojito, canapés and the coach from your hotel. From the same harbour, the dolphin watching fast boat goes out at midday or at sunset.
La Graciosa
The ferry to La Graciosa leaves from Órzola, at the northern tip of Lanzarote, and takes about 25 minutes. Two companies sail it, Biosfera Express and Líneas Romero, and both sell the crossing on its own or with a coach from your hotel.
For the island by boat, the La Graciosa catamaran day trip sails round its coast with lunch and an open bar, and the catamaran with paella starts with an hour in Caleta de Sebo before anchoring off Playa Francesa. Three coach days add La Graciosa to the north of Lanzarote: the Teguise market on Sundays, Lagomar and the Cactus Garden, and the north Lanzarote day trip with Lagomar and Mirador del Río.
Isla de Lobos and Fuerteventura
Isla de Lobos is the small natural park between the two islands. The Lobos trip from Puerto del Carmen goes by fast boat, looking for dolphins on the way, with a picnic ashore. The Lobos day trip from Playa Blanca takes the ferry to Corralejo and then a water taxi, a catamaran or a mini cruise to the islet. Going ashore on Lobos needs the free permit from lobospass.com.
Fuerteventura is half an hour away. The ferry from Playa Blanca to Corralejo sails five times a day, with a coach option, and the Fuerteventura day trip adds a guide and a coach for El Cotillo, Corralejo and the dunes. Take your passport for any crossing to Fuerteventura.
Around Playa Blanca
The waterbus runs along the coast between Playa Blanca harbour and Marina Rubicón, return or one way.
