How much do excursions in Tenerife cost?
A shared whale and dolphin trip is usually €25 to €70 a head, depending on how long you are out and whether food and drinks are included. Jet skis, parasailing and banana boats start under €30 for a short session. A Siam Park ticket is just under €50. Island tours and jeep safaris run from about €25 for half a day to around €70 for a full one with the hotel pick-up included. A private charter is priced for the boat and not for the person, so it only makes sense once you are a group.

Whales and dolphins, all year round
The channel between Tenerife and La Gomera is one of the few places in Europe where whale watching does not depend on the season. Short-finned pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins live there rather than passing through, and twenty-one species turn up in Canary waters regularly. Trips last 2 to 4.5 hours and leave from Puerto Colón and Los Cristianos; most include drinks, something to eat and a swimming stop in a sheltered bay.

Can you still book something for today or tomorrow?
Yes, and for more of it than people expect. Siam Park and Loro Parque tickets are bought and used the same day: buy one over breakfast and walk in. Whale and dolphin boats leave several times a day from the south of Tenerife, so a midday departure can usually be taken that morning, and jet skis, parasailing and quads run on short notice most of the year. The exception is the private charter: there is only one of each boat, and in summer they go days ahead.
Where the boats leave from
In the south of Tenerife: Puerto Colón in Costa Adeje, docks 2 and 4, and the harbour at Los Cristianos, plus Marina del Sur in Las Galletas. On the east coast, Radazul, which is where the jet skis and the diving go out. A good number of trips include a free hotel pick-up from Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos, and each activity says whether the pick-up is included.
Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and the crossing to Lobos
In Gran Canaria the boats work out of Puerto Rico and Puerto Base, on the south-west corner where the water is calmest. In Fuerteventura most sailings leave Puerto Castillo, in Caleta de Fuste, and the ferry to Isla de Lobos crosses from Corralejo in about fifteen minutes, three times each way, which is what makes the island a half day out rather than a whole one.

Most of what we sell can be cancelled free up to 48 hours before the activity, and a lower price never shortens that window. Private charters ask for more notice, usually five to seven days, since a whole boat is being held for you. Every activity page states its own terms before you pay.
Is it cheaper to book ahead or once you arrive?
Book ahead. The good departures go first, and by the day before in August there is rarely much left to choose from. Booking early costs you nothing either way: with free cancellation up to 48 hours before on most trips, an early booking is a seat held rather than a decision you cannot undo.
