La Palma is the north-western island of the archipelago, reached by ferry from Los Cristianos in Tenerife or by air into Santa Cruz de La Palma. Most visitors come for the walking: the Caldera de Taburiente in the middle of the island, the ridge paths along the Cumbre, and the ground left by the 2021 eruption in the south.
The capital, Santa Cruz de La Palma, is on the east coast, where the ferry and the cruise ships come in. Its old town is one long street behind the seafront: the carved wooden balconies of the Avenida Marítima, the Plaza de España with the church of El Salvador and the town hall, and the Castillo de Santa Catalina de Alejandría at the north end, built to keep corsairs out of the harbour.
What we list here are the guided walks through that old town, with a qualified history guide. Browse them above to compare times and meeting points.
