Boat trips, water sports and island tours in Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands and the flattest, which is why almost everything here happens on or next to the water. The two bases for activities are Caleta de Fuste on the east coast, with its own marina, and Corralejo in the north, the departure point for the crossing to Isla de Lobos.

Isla de Lobos is the small volcanic islet between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, a protected natural park since 1982. The crossing from Corralejo takes about 15 minutes. On the islet there is walking, the volcano, the lighthouse, the lagoons and the beach at La Concha. Boats run as a scheduled ferry, as catamaran day trips with lunch on board, and as a mini cruise with an underwater viewing deck.

Off the north coast the same boats run whale and dolphin watching. The channel here is deep and the sightings are of resident cetaceans rather than a seasonal migration.

In Caleta de Fuste the marina has a cluster of water sports in one place: jet skis, kayaks, pedal boats, stand up paddle, an inflatable aqua park and an electric trimaran, all bookable by the half hour or the hour. Inland, full-day island tours take in the Entallada lighthouse, the black sand and sea caves at Ajuy, the old capital of Betancuria and the dunes of Corralejo.
