Full description
Four hours from Puerto Calero to Papagayo beach
A Catlanza catamaran sails out of Puerto Calero, on the south coast of Lanzarote, and runs down to Papagayo, the best known beach on the island, inside the Los Ajaches natural park.
Off the beach the boat anchors. There is a slide off the deck into the sea, along with snorkelling, paddle boards and kayaks.
Lunch and drinks on board
On the way out there is local cheese with bread and fruit. Lunch at anchor is Italian pasta with a vegetarian sauce of tomato and fresh vegetables with parmesan, salad, Canarian potatoes with mojo and fresh fruit.
Drinks come with the trip the whole way: still and sparkling water, soft drinks, juice, beer, wine and cava.
Two departures, the same boat and the same fare
The same trip sails in two versions and the booking panel shows both. The shared trip takes every age. The adults-only departure starts at age 13 and carries no child or infant fare. The boat, the route and what you pay are the same on both.
Getting to the boat
A coach brings you to Puerto Calero and takes you back again, and it comes with the fare. It runs from Costa Teguise, Arrecife, Playa Honda and Puerto del Carmen on one route of 23 stops, from Playa Blanca on another, and it calls at Marina Lanzarote for anyone arriving by cruise ship. The stop you are given is the nearest one to your hotel, and it is confirmed when you book.
Depending on which stop that is, the coach leaves up to 86 minutes before the boat, and it does not wait: be there 10 minutes early.
If you have a car, skip the coach and come straight to the office at Puerto Calero.
When it sails
In summer there are two departures a day, 10:00 to 14:00 and 14:15 to 18:15. Outside high season there is also an 11:30.
The Catlanza VII privately, two hours or four
The same catamaran is hired whole, on the same run to Papagayo, for two hours or four. The rate covers the boat and moves up a band as the group grows, up to 90 guests. The two-hour charter falls at the right end of the day for the sunset.
If you are a small group
The Catlanza VII is a big boat, and a party of six on a four-hour charter is paying for deck nobody is standing on. For that there is the Catlanza VI, the smaller of the two, hired privately for four hours and taking up to 14: see the Catlanza VI charter.
