Full description
Whale watching from Puerto Calero on an electric catamaran
Whale watching in Lanzarote on La Santa Maria, a 14-metre electric catamaran that leaves from Puerto Calero. With no engine noise, the boat moves quietly while the crew look for whales and dolphins, and a hydrophone lets you hear them underwater. There are 12 guests at most, with a skipper and a guide.
Whale and dolphin watching
The boat leaves at 09:00 and heads for the open sea, where the guide explains the species you meet and how they behave. The waters off Lanzarote are home to bottlenose, common, striped and Atlantic spotted dolphins, Risso's and rough-toothed dolphins, pilot whales, Bryde's whales, sperm whales and Cuvier's beaked whales. A 360-degree camera shows what is happening below the surface. You are back in Puerto Calero after about four hours.
The sunset trip
The 2.5-hour trip goes out in the late afternoon and follows the south coast, past Playa Quemada and the Femés mountains, as the sun goes down. It passes a spot where dolphins often come to feed in the evening, so with some luck they join you. The time moves with the sunset, and the booking panel shows it for your date.
On board
The deck measures 108 m², roomy for twelve. Water, organic soft drinks, local juices, beer, snacks and fresh fruit are included on both trips. The guide speaks English, Spanish and French.
Getting there
