A guided tour is the simplest way to reach the parts of Tenerife that are hard to drive yourself: the summit area of Mount Teide, the mountain village of Masca, and the old towns of the north. Pick-ups run from the resort areas of the south, and a local guide drives and explains each stop, so you cover more in a day than you would on your own. Browse the guided tours above to compare routes and prices. Every booking comes with our Best Price Guarantee.
Tours come in two formats: relaxed bus tours on air-conditioned coaches, and 4x4 jeep tours that leave the main roads for the tracks.
Mount Teide is Spain's highest peak at 3,718 m, and the national park around it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. The Teide bus tour climbs through the pine forest to the caldera, where the cable car runs up to its 3,555 m upper station (a separate ticket, and the final stretch to the summit needs a free permit). After dark, the same high, dry air makes the park one of Europe's clearest places for stargazing, which is what the Teide by night tour is built around.
The full island tour pairs the volcano with the north coast: Icod de los Vinos and its centuries-old Drago Milenario dragon tree, the harbour town of Garachico that a 1706 eruption reshaped, and the cliff-top village of Masca in the Teno mountains. The Teide and Masca jeep tour covers similar ground on tracks that an open 4x4 can reach.
Northern Tenerife is greener and more traditional than the south. The north Tenerife bus tour takes in its towns and viewpoints, while the full island bus tour covers the main sights in a single day. On the west coast, the Masca and Los Gigantes tour combines the Teno valley with the natural sea pools and the cliffs of Los Gigantes.
Two tours leave Tenerife for a neighbouring island and return the same day. The La Gomera jeep safari and the La Gomera bus tour cross by ferry from Los Cristianos to the laurel forest of Garajonay National Park. The Gran Canaria experience visits the neighbouring island and its Poema del Mar aquarium.
Where. Most tours pick up from hotels and central points in Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas, and Los Cristianos. Your pick-up point is confirmed when you book.
What to bring. Bring a layer or two, since Teide is much colder than the coast and often sits above the clouds, plus sunscreen, water, and shoes you can walk in at the stops.
Who can take part. Bus tours suit all ages. Jeep tours cross rougher tracks, so age and seating details are noted on each activity page.
When to book. Teide and full-island tours fill up in summer, so booking a day or two ahead is sensible. Confirmation is instant by email and WhatsApp.
