Stargazing in Tenerife: Teide National Park by night
Stargazing in Tenerife is at its best inside Teide National Park, and this evening tour takes you there after sunset. A local operator runs the trip, combining a sunset stop, the park's volcanic scenery and a relaxed stargazing session under some of the clearest skies in Europe. The park is a certified Starlight Destination, which means very little light pollution and a sky that stays exceptionally dark.
What the evening is like
The tour begins with a sunset stop at a viewpoint inside the National Park, with time for photos before the light fades. Once it is dark, your guide points out the constellations using a laser pointer and sets up a telescope so you can look at stars, planets and deep-sky objects. The whole trip lasts around 6 hours and runs on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
Mount Teide and dinner
Mount Teide stands at 3,715 metres and is the highest peak in Spain, in a UNESCO World Heritage site. The volcanic landscape has been used as a filming location for several international productions. Dinner is included and is usually served at a Canarian restaurant such as Casa Sira, although the exact venue can vary depending on availability. The meal is simple and local, and dietary options are generally available.
Pickup and what to bring
Hotel pick-up and drop-off are included. You choose your pick-up point during booking, so please give accurate hotel details so the driver can collect you correctly. Temperatures drop sharply at altitude after dark, so warm clothing is essential. Bring your digital CanaryVIP ticket and a camera. The coach has no toilet on board and is not adapted for wheelchair access.
Booking and cancellation
You can cancel free up to 48 hours before the experience. If you find it cheaper elsewhere, our price match policy applies. Larger groups need more notice: 72 hours for groups of 5 to 7, 4 days for 8 to 14, and 6 days for 15 or more. Stargazing visibility depends on the weather and cannot be fully guaranteed, but the operator will always do its best to run the experience. Well thought out: a modern air-conditioned coach, a stop at the café above Vilaflor for an ice cream or a barraquito, and a driver who took the winding road with ease. Nico talked about the island's history and the Guanches, and the geology interested me most. Then the national park, with two stops to look around.
Der Ablauf war durchdacht: moderner Bus mit Klimaanlage, ein Stopp im Café oberhalb von Vilaflor auf ein Eis oder einen Barraquito, dazu ein Fahrer, der die kurvige Strecke souverän nahm. Nico erzählte viel über die Geschichte der Insel und die Guanchen, wobei mich Geologie und Urzeit am meisten interessiert haben. Danach in den Nationalpark, mit zwei Stopps zum Umsehen.
A special evening for the whole family. There are several stops along the way for photos and souvenirs, commercial but never pushy, and for the sunset you drive to a spot that shifts with the season. The three-course dinner comes with no choice beyond a vegetarian option, and that bothered me more than the food, which was fine.
Een bijzondere avond voor ons hele gezin. Onderweg zijn er meerdere stops om te fotograferen en souvenirs te kopen, commercieel maar niet opdringerig, en voor de zonsondergang rijd je naar een plek die per seizoen verschilt. Bij het driegangendiner valt niets te kiezen behalve vegetarisch, en dat stoorde meer dan het eten zelf, dat prima was.
A beautiful bit of nature up on the volcano, and the sunset from that height was genuinely lovely. Jesper told the story of the stars well and clearly knew his Teide, the island and the rest of the Canaries. A thoroughly successful outing.
Flot naturoplevelse oppe på vulkanen, og solnedgangen set fra den højde var virkelig smuk. Jesper fortalte levende om stjernerne og vidste tydeligvis besked med både Teide, øen og resten af Kanarieøerne. En rigtig vellykket udflugt.
Plenty of photo stops inside the national park, a bathroom break among them, and enough time to enjoy the three-course dinner. The high point for me was the sunset above the cloud, with the stars through telescopes and a laser pointer to close the evening. A fine night out.
Viele Fotostopps im Nationalpark, dazwischen auch mal eine Toilettenpause, und beim dreigängigen Abendessen hatten wir genug Zeit. Der Höhepunkt war für mich der Sonnenuntergang über den Wolken, zum Schluss dann die Sterne durch die Teleskope, mit Laserpointer erklärt. Ein rundum toller Abend.
Great stargazing evening. Jesper guided, knew his subject and was properly funny, which lifted the whole thing. Special mention for Osvaldo at the wheel, the best driver I have had; those mountain roads can be tough going and I never once felt queasy or unsafe.

The landscape and the stars were both remarkable, and Isobell added to it with what she knew and a dry Belgian sense of humour. Oswaldo got us everywhere we needed to be, and the meal was good too. A memorable evening that I would recommend.
The drive up to Teide has stops for the views and for photographs, and there is a coffee break in a pretty village along the way. Do not expect much of the meal; it does its job. The night sky is the thing, and it is at its best when there is no moon.
I've done multiple excursions, and this is probably one of the most interesting ones. It's amazing to be able to see all the stars from Teide. The guide was very knowledgeable, and the telescopes were amazing. Thank you for this unforgettable experience.
