The Blue Dream is a 12 metre Hanse sailing yacht, built in 2019, hired whole out of Puerto Deportivo Pasito Blanco on the south coast of Gran Canaria. Up to six guests, and the boat is yours for the day, so two of you or six is the same booking.

There are four lengths to choose from: two and a half hours, three hours, a half day of five hours, or a full day of seven. The three-hour charter runs either in the day or at sunset, so there are five departures on the list. Transport from the south coast resorts is included on all of them.

This is a boat that sails. Whenever the course and the weather allow, the engine goes off and the run down the coast is done under canvas.

On board

The deck forward is laid out as a padded solarium, and the cockpit aft sits in the shade of a sprayhood and a bimini. At the stern a teak bathing platform folds down to the water with a ladder, so you step down into the sea and climb back out of it.

Below there is a saloon with a table for the group and a galley, so a seven-hour day does not depend on what you managed to carry aboard.

Where it goes

The skipper sets the route on the morning, from the wind and the sea that day. The usual run heads west along the coast and anchors in a sheltered bay, where the ladder goes down for swimming and snorkelling while the tapas are laid out in the cockpit.

The sunset charters go the other way, along the front of Maspalomas towards the Faro de Maspalomas and the dunes, then turn to follow the sun down. There are two of them: the two and a half hour one sails the whole way, and the three hour one anchors for a swim and lays out the tapas before it turns. On a clear evening the last second before the sun goes is worth watching for: that is when the green flash shows, if it shows at all.

These waters are crossed by dolphins, and they occasionally come and ride the bow wave.

Eating and drinking

A glass of cava as you step aboard, then local drinks that run the length of the charter. The three-hour and half-day charters lay out a tapas service of Canarian products; the full day serves a lunch on board; the two and a half hour sunset charter pairs its cava with an aperitif.

A bottle of champagne or red wine, Iberian cheese and charcuterie, chocolates, a birthday cake, a fruit basket, flowers, decoration for the cockpit and a thirty-minute head massage can all be added to any charter, which is why this boat gets booked for birthdays, proposals and company days out.

Tell us about any food allergies when you book. Severe allergies cannot be catered for, because there is no separate galley equipment on board.

Getting there

Puerto Deportivo Pasito Blanco, on the south coast of Gran Canaria between Maspalomas and Arguineguín. Pick-up from the south coast resorts comes with the charter, so give the address when you book and the time comes back with your confirmation. If you are making your own way, arrive about 15 minutes before your departure time.
