These are the seasons the fish are normally around, not a promise of a catch. Fishing depends on the day, the water and the weather, and no trip can guarantee what comes up.

Full description

Fishing in Tenerife aboard the Happy Hooker

The Happy Hooker is a sport-fishing catamaran working out of Puerto Colón, in Costa Adeje. The catamaran hull is the point of it: two hulls sit far steadier than a monohull of the same size, and on a day with any swell in it that is the difference between fishing properly and holding on to the rail. The boat was restored in 2019 and runs twin 315 hp engines.

Two departures a day

Trips leave daily at 09:00 and 13:30, so the fishing fits around the rest of your holiday rather than swallowing it. You can join a shared trip, taking one of up to eight rods, or book the whole boat privately for anything from four to eight hours.

Who takes you out

Captain Jamie Hinson has fished this coast since the 1980s and has run the boat as a charter since 2009, with a deckhand alongside him. That length of local knowledge is what decides where the boat goes on a given morning, and it is not something a chart can replace.

What is on board

Rods, reels, tackle, bait and lures are provided, and the Canary Islands fishing licence, fuel and taxes are all included in the price. Drinks and snacks are on board. Meals are not included, so bring lunch on a longer trip.

What you might catch

The south of Tenerife has deep water very close to shore, so the offshore species are reachable within a short run. Tuna and dorado run through the warmer half of the year, and blue marlin turn up at the peak of the summer. Nothing is guaranteed, which is what makes it fishing.

Departure and getting there

The boat is berthed on pontoon 2 at Puerto Colón. Arrive at least 15 minutes before departure, and note that parking is available at the port.

We are just back from the fishing trip and would go out with Jay, Albert and the Spanish skipper again without thinking twice. A catch is never guaranteed, though the odds are good, and we have just eaten part of what we brought in.

Jul 2026

A superb, well-equipped boat and easy to deal with. The crew treated my eleven-year-old son like royalty, and he even landed a tuna. A day we will not forget.

Jun 2026

My husband landed a tuna on our honeymoon and was over the moon. I had never fished before and could have used more help, so I would say the boat suits people with some experience; I gave up after the bait fishing and sat out front in the sun. Water, juice and beer were included.

I have been going out with Jamie most years for about a decade, first on my own, then with my eldest. This time we took a private charter so my six-year-old could try sea fishing, and it worked out perfectly: Jamie's son Jay and Christian took us out.

Dec 2025

A catch is not certain: some of the time fish came, some of the time they did not. The crew still did everything they could to find them.

Aug 2025

A great day on the water. Jay in particular took the time to walk me through it all, having never fished before, and the crew clearly know the fishing round here inside out. No marlin were biting, but we still hooked a few lively fish that fought hard.

Jul 2025

A father and son run this boat and they genuinely do their best to make the trip a good one. We brought in several tuna. Worth doing.

Sep 2024

The people on board were friendly and helpful and everything ran smoothly. We fished for herring first and then for the bigger ones; we managed to land one and put it back in the sea. Next time we are in Tenerife we will go out with them again.
