Full description

Private fishing charter in Tenerife aboard the Royal Sport

The Royal Sport is a Luhrs 32 sport fisherman running private charters from Puerto Colón, in Costa Adeje. Twin 380 hp Yanmar engines cruise it at around 22 knots, and off this coast that matters: the sea bed falls away steeply within a few miles of the marina, so a fast boat puts you over deep water not long after leaving the harbour wall.

Private, up to six anglers

Every charter is private. The boat is yours, up to six anglers, and the price is for the boat rather than per person. The three-hour charter leaves at 08:00, which is when the water on this side of the island is usually at its calmest. The long day runs seven hours and carries a deckhand as well as the skipper, which on a big-game day is a real difference.

Who takes you out

Captain Carlos Cabrera runs the boat himself. On a small charter that is worth more than any piece of equipment on board: the person choosing where to fish is the one who has been fishing this stretch of water all season.

What is on board

Rods, reels, tackle and lures are provided, and the Canary Islands fishing licence is included, so there is nothing to sort out beforehand. Snacks and drinks come with the three hours, and a brunchbox and drinks with the seven. Live bait is the one thing charged separately, so mention it when you book if you want it.

What you might catch

Tuna and dorado through the warmer half of the year, with blue marlin at the peak of the summer, and wahoo and amberjack on the right day. What you actually meet depends on the month and the water, and the skipper will tell you straight what is realistic before you go.
