We went out on a shared trip and it could hardly have gone better: live bait first, then a few blackspot seabream that put up a proper fight. Vicente, the skipper, is friendly and good for a laugh. If you like fishing, do not think twice.
The wind was up, but Vicente worked hard to keep us over the fish and to keep us comfortable. He is attentive and reads what is going on, which is what you want in a fishing guide, and the variety of methods he showed us kept it interesting throughout. Anyone visiting the area who likes fishing should go.
Half a day out with a nine-year-old and it worked perfectly. Vicente is patient, knows the water and has good gear on a small but excellent boat. We landed some barracuda and spent time trolling for tuna.
We started by catching sardines for bait, then the barracuda bit well, though the bigger fish eluded us: we had takes, but they came off. Vicente kept switching spots and tackle and did all he could, and he fed us along the way. We saw dolphins and turtles, and the boat is roomy enough for three.
The scenery and the mood on board would have been enough on their own, but the fishing made it. We filled up on sardines for bait and then landed two barracuda and two black amberjack. The captain was good company and showed us how and where to fish; I would go again.
Vicente is a serious fisherman who genuinely goes for the bigger fish, even if it does not always come off; the conditions are not his doing. He works hard at it, knows exactly what he is doing, and both the boat and the tackle are in good order. Fishing is not the same as catching, so five stars anyway.
A terrific morning, and the trip was run in a thoroughly professional way. I would strongly suggest getting out on the water with him.
For me live-bait fishing is the best the sea has to offer, with thrills you do not see coming. A fine experience, and in the hands of a professional.
A great day with Vicente, whose good mood is catching and who clearly loves what he does. The boat is small but exactly right, and there is the proper gear for every method: bait fish first, then trolling and bottom fishing with live and artificial baits. He knows the area and where the fish are.
