Full description

PADI courses in Radazul, Tenerife

Radazul sits on the east coast of Tenerife, in El Rosario, between Santa Cruz and Candelaria. The water here is normally calm and clear, which is what you want when you are learning. The centre is a PADI 5 Star dive centre with its own Zodiac, and it runs the two courses most people take, the Open Water and the Advanced Open Water, plus the Wreck Diver specialty.

PADI Open Water Diver

The course that lets you dive anywhere in the world, in three to four days and with no experience needed. It has three parts. The theory covers the equipment, the safety rules and how to move underwater. The confined-water sessions, in a pool or a sheltered stretch of sea, are where you practise breathing from the regulator, clearing your mask and controlling your buoyancy. Then come four dives in the sea off Radazul, over volcanic reefs with turtles, rays, groupers and schools of fish.

All equipment is included: wetsuit, mask, fins, BCD, regulator and tank. You need to be able to swim and to fill in a health questionnaire before you start; depending on the answers, a medical certificate may be needed.

PADI Advanced Open Water

For divers who already hold the Open Water. Over two to three days you make five adventure dives, each one teaching something new: a deep dive to thirty metres, underwater navigation, buoyancy control, marine life identification, and others chosen on what interests you. The certificate is recognised worldwide, and the two courses can be taken one after the other on the same trip.

Specialties

The centre also teaches the PADI Wreck Diver specialty, and beyond it Nitrox, deep, night, dry suit, sidemount, underwater photo and video, and marine biology courses.

Learning conditions

The sea off Radazul holds 18 to 24 degrees through the year and visibility is over twenty metres most of the year. Groups are small and the timetable adapts to you, so the course takes the days you need. Courses start in the morning or the afternoon, Tuesday to Sunday. Leave 24 hours between your last dive and a flight, or a trip up to Teide.

Before you decide

If you have never breathed underwater, the same centre runs a try dive at Radazul to six metres, with no licence needed. And once you are certified, the guided dives at Radazul take you to the wreck and the caves.
