Kalima Kat catamaran in Tenerife: private and shared boat tours

The Kalima Kat is a modern catamaran that runs private charters and shared boat tours from the south of Tenerife. It is licensed for up to 22 passengers, which is unusual here, since most private boats on the island are limited to 12. That makes it a good fit for larger groups who want to stay together. You sail from Puerto Colón in Costa Adeje along the southern coastline, with stops to swim and snorkel in quiet coves. Whale and dolphin sightings are common on this stretch of water.

What the trip is like

You can book the boat privately or join a 3-hour shared tour at a lower price, which follows the same route. Private charters run for either 3 or 6 hours. The shorter trip cruises the coast with stops to swim, snorkel and sunbathe. The 6-hour option moves at a slower pace, visits more coves and gives you longer in the water, which suits birthdays, proposals, corporate days or a relaxed day out. Sunset tours are also available.

What is included

Every trip includes the captain and crew, travel insurance and snorkelling equipment. Catering is included too, and there are three menus to choose from: a spread of starters, a paella (seafood, meat or mixed), or a vegetarian paella with salad. Your group picks one for the whole charter. Drinks on board are soft drinks, beer, white wine, cava and water. There is a toilet on board, which makes the longer charters more comfortable for bigger groups.

Departure and getting there

Tours leave from Puerto Colón, a central, easy-to-reach marina in Costa Adeje. Please arrive 30 minutes before departure so check-in runs smoothly. Daily departures are at 09:30, 12:30 and 15:30, plus sunset sailings. Hotel pick-up is not included, so you make your own way to the marina.

What to bring and good to know

Bring swimwear, a towel, sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat, and a light jacket in the cooler months. Snorkelling gear is provided. The crew handles everything on the day, so if anything comes up during the trip you can speak to them directly.

Booking and cancellation

You can book online and confirmation is instant. Private charters are fully refundable more than 7 days before departure; shared tours are fully refundable more than 3 days before. After that, and for no-shows, there is no refund. If conditions are unsafe, the captain may reschedule or offer a full refund. Trips cut short at guest request, for example because of seasickness, are not refundable.
