Viking boat tour in Tenerife: whale and dolphin watching on the Ragnarok
The Viking boat tour in Tenerife sails on the Ragnarok, a Viking-styled replica ship. It departs from Los Cristianos and combines whale and dolphin watching with a fully themed Norse experience on deck. The crew dress the part, and the route follows the southwest coast where pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins live year-round. It suits families, couples and groups of friends.
What the trip is like
You can pick a 2-hour or 3-hour voyage from Los Cristianos harbour. Both follow the resident cetacean habitats along the southwest coast, where pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins are spotted throughout the year. Sightings are common, though they cannot be guaranteed. On the way you get Atlantic Ocean views and a Viking-themed atmosphere from departure to return.
On board the Ragnarok
The ship has a full bar and restaurant service, with drinks, snacks and treats available during the trip. Comfortable seating is spread across the deck, and there are toilets and accessible areas on board. The Viking theme runs throughout: expect themed shows, interactive games and the chance to try on Viking-style gear. The multilingual crew is on hand to help, and full safety equipment is in place on every departure.
Where it departs and getting there
The tour leaves from Zona Excursiones A in the Puerto de Los Cristianos. Arrive 10 to 20 minutes before departure for a smooth check-in and boarding. Paid public parking is available right at the port. The tour runs Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with departures at 11:00 and 13:30. It is one of several boat excursions in Tenerife run by CanaryVIP.
Booking and cancellation
You choose your date and time during booking, and confirmation is instant. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund; no-shows and cancellations within 24 hours are non-refundable. If the sea is unsafe, you can move your booking to another date or take a full refund.

The mood on board was excellent, the outing too, and the crew were so laid-back that we felt at ease straight away.
L'ambiance à bord était vraiment excellente, la sortie aussi, et l'équipage était d'une décontraction qui met tout de suite à l'aise.
An entertaining trip: you go out for a loop, come back with a couple of photos, and it is worth doing. Watch out if you are prone to seasickness. Nice crew.

On our last day we hesitated over whether to go out on the water, and there was no need to think about it: the programme is brilliant and the crew clearly put everything into it. We saw whales too, from very close.

A great outing for the family and a change from the usual. We came across a few dolphin families and were then allowed into the sea for a swim.

Money well spent: the whole crew keep the entertainment going, Thor above all, and that really is his name. We spotted whales and dolphins, and nobody goes chasing after them. A brilliant laugh.
Enjoyable outing. Someone painted a Viking symbol on my arm, we saw some wildlife, and Thor kept us thoroughly entertained.
Thanks above all to the crew, and to Thor in particular: warm, expressive and entertaining throughout. The pilot whales came right up close to us, and the metal and rock on the speakers made the whole thing feel that bit more Viking.
Our guide was friendly and had plenty to tell us. The theme is played for fun without being overdone, and we got to see pilot whales.
The staff went well beyond what anyone would expect. They opened the side doors so my disabled mum could see the whales, and one of them sat in the gap to be sure she was safe. The boat and the props look the part, they put metal on for my three-year-old, and it works for adults and children alike.
What I liked most is how it is handled at sea: once a whale is sighted the music stops, we are asked to stay quiet and the engines drop right down, and the crew point out where to look. Pilot whales rode our wake and a sperm whale sat at the surface. I would sail with them again.
A fine spell out on the water, and we got our pilot whales. The staff were terrific and the children had a wonderful time.
A fun boat tour, especially our children liked it very much!
