Dolphins and whales seen in their own surroundings, with a captain who knows what he is doing and follows them carefully. We then stopped to dive in and watch fish underwater, ate lunch on board and came home happy. Worth doing at least once.

Delfini e balene visti nel loro ambiente, con un capitano che sa il fatto suo e li segue con attenzione. Poi ci siamo fermati per tuffarci e guardare i pesci sott'acqua, si è pranzato a bordo e siamo tornati contenti. Da fare almeno una volta.

Eduardo switched between English, Portuguese and German for the different groups, and had plenty to say about the reserve, the volcano and the dolphins and whales that live there. Getting into that blue water with small fish around was the part the family liked most.

O Eduardo foi falando com cada grupo em inglês, português e alemão, e explicou bastante sobre a reserva, o vulcão e os golfinhos e baleias que ali andam. O mergulho no mar, com aquela água azul e os peixes pequenos à volta, foi o que a família mais gostou.

I have had no better service on a trip boat. The woman working on board looked after everyone, had good advice for those not great at sea and gave them her time, and kept coming round about drinks. Pilot whales and dolphins turned up, the food was surprisingly good, though plenty of guests threw some of it away.

Die Frau an Bord kümmerte sich um alle, hatte für seeuntaugliche Gäste gute Tipps und nahm sich Zeit; nach Getränken wurde immer wieder gefragt. Grindwale und Delfine kamen vorbei, und das Essen war überraschend gut, auch wenn viele Gäste einiges wegwarfen.

We went as a family, with children of eleven and fourteen, and all of us loved it. Isi explained things well and kept an eye on us, friendly and easy to talk to. Pilot whales, turtles and dolphins turned up, we swam among the fish and the food was very good.

Salimos en familia, con dos hijos de once y catorce años, y nos encantó a todos. Isi explicaba bien las cosas y estuvo pendiente de nosotros, simpático y cercano. Vimos calderones, tortugas y delfines, nos bañamos entre peces y comimos muy bien.

A really pleasant boat trip, we spotted a lot of dolphins and the people on board were friendly. Worth doing, as far as we are concerned.

Roman looked after us in a friendly way and explained plenty about whales, turtles and dolphins. Captain Jorge steered us reliably to where the animals were. The food was good, drinks came at no extra charge, and nothing negative comes to mind.

Roman kümmerte sich freundlich um uns und erklärte viel über Wale, Schildkröten und Delfine. Kapitän Jorge steuerte uns zuverlässig dorthin, wo die Tiere waren. Das Essen war gut, Getränke gab es kostenlos, und etwas Negatives fällt mir schlicht nicht ein.

What mattered to us was seeing the animals free rather than in a tank, and in a small group rather than on some huge ship. The sea was calm and dolphins, a turtle and whales all came by. Having it explained in German helped even our four-year-old, and you can tell the crew genuinely care about the animals.

Uns war wichtig, die Tiere frei zu sehen statt im Becken, und in kleiner Runde statt auf einem Riesenschiff. Bei ruhiger See kamen Delfine, eine Schildkröte und Wale. Dass auf Deutsch erklärt wurde, half sogar unserem Vierjährigen; man merkt, dass der Crew die Tiere wirklich am Herzen liegen.

The pilot whales doze at the surface in the mornings, which was good to watch. The swim stop convinced me less: it happens at a well-used beach in Los Cristianos, and I would have preferred a quiet cove with fish to snorkel over. Lunch was chicken with rice and vegetables, decent enough, and the boat was not crowded.

Die Grindwale dösen vormittags an der Oberfläche, das war schön zu sehen. Weniger überzeugt hat mich der Badestopp: der findet an einem gut besuchten Strand in Los Cristianos statt, eine ruhige Bucht mit Fischen zum Schnorcheln wäre mir lieber gewesen. Zum Essen gab es Hähnchen mit Reis und Gemüse, ganz ordentlich, und voll war das Boot auch nicht.
