Lanzarote is the easternmost of the Canary Islands and the driest. Its shape comes from the eruptions of 1730 to 1736, which buried a quarter of the island and left the lava fields that are now the Timanfaya national park. The resorts sit along the east and south coasts: Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca, with the capital, Arrecife, between the first two.
The south is where the boats go. Puerto Calero, a marina in the municipality of Yaiza, is the departure point for the day trips down the coast to Papagayo, the best known of the sheltered coves inside the Los Ajaches natural park, which has no road worth driving and is easiest to reach from the water. Boats anchor off it for swimming and snorkelling.
What we list here are the boat trips that make that run, shared by the seat or hired whole, and the water sports that cover the same coast from a kayak, launching off the beach at Las Coloradas in Playa Blanca. Browse them above to compare times, what is included and where each one starts.
